Where to Eat in Lincoln

There's no need to leave the comfort of the hotel to grab a bite to eat but if you fancy going further afield, you'll find a wealth of restaurants to suit.

In close proximity to Holiday Inn Express Lincoln is the Waterfront Zone which hosts a variety of different cuisines including Portuguese, Mexican, Italian, and traditional English. Guests at the hotel are welcome to a free taxi or free bottle of wine per four persons at Thai One On, or can enjoy a unique experience on the floating fish restaurant ‘The Barge on the Brayford’.

The High Street, and Steep Hill of Lincoln contain many delicious restaurants at reasonable prices such as the Lamb and Flag and the Slug and Lettuce. Alternatively, you can try a steak at Wig and Mitre, or a pie at Brown’s Pie Shop.

You will also be spoilt for choice in the ‘Bailgate’ entrance to the city where you can find some finer restaurants such as multi-award winning The Old Bakery dating built in 1837, the stylish Grille Bar, or high quality Cafe Zoot.

What to Do in Lincoln

On the Brayford Pool, visitors can experience Lincoln’s boat trip during the summer which sails down the oldest Roman Canal in England, as this fifty minute journey welcomes passengers aboard, with an on board bar, indoor and outdoor seating also welcoming dogs on lead. For adults tickets cost £6.00, and children tickets costs £4.00. The Waterfront is also a pleasant venue to dine, drink and walk along, it is also home to Lincoln’s nine-screen Odeon Cinema.

At the peak of the Steep Hill, the cobbled Castle Square is located beside the tourist information. To the left, is Lincoln Castle, an exciting experience open for viewing. At £5.00 for adults and £3.30 for children, you can walk around the ancient castle walls, looking down on the beautiful city, before visiting the castle prison and other remains. To the right of the square, is the magnificent Lincoln Cathedral (one of the tallest buildings in the world) whether you are outside, inside or on one of the Tower Tours that are provided two to three times a day, it is certainly worth the visit!

The Lawn is an elegant green space in the higher part of Lincoln, which is a nice hot spot for families, with a smart gift shop, play park, and different coffee shop set in Sir Charles Bank Conservatory, a lovely greenhouse.

At free entrance, the Museum of Lincolnshire Life on Burton Road, is an interesting place to visit to witness what life in the region was like in times gone by. Just down the road, Ellis Mill offer tours of the mill, and how it works. You can buy freshly ground flour from here.
One of the things Lincoln is most famous for is the Christmas Market- one of the largest Christmas Markets in Europe. This spans over four days, and attracts thousands from all around the world whether visitors or stall holders. Having offered an exclusive festive experience for almost thirty years, the market revels in its stalls, funfair rides, and traditional events such as beer barrel rolling.

Shopping in Lincoln

Shopping in Lincoln We are proud to overlook (originally an old Railway Station) St Mark’s Shopping Centre- a retail park with some of the larger stores such as Debenhams, M&Co, Mamas and Papas, British Home Stores etc. The high street (at the end of the shopping centre) is compiled of more of the modern chain shops with all the up to date fashion trends. The city has a market place next to the High Street in the Cornhill area, which is open every day home to hundreds of stalls.

The Stonebow (the Roman Western gate into the Older part of the city), divides the old from the new. The Steep Hill and Bailgate boast some beautiful touristy, independent shops ideal for gift shopping.
